D Jack

So Philadelphia's 27-13 win over San Francisco wasn't pretty but Eagles fans will take it. The game started off great. The birds were moving the ball at will and once again DeSean Jackson showed why I think he is the most exciting player in football. Jackson finished the game with 140 yards and a touchdown.

I am asking Eagles fans to really think about this question. REALLY think about it. Is D Jack the most exciting player in Eagles history? I'm not asking is he the best ever, I'm asking is he the most exciting player in the history of the franchise? Think about that before you respond.

To me he is, no question nor is there any doubt. I cannot think of any player in my 28 years of being a fan that was more exciting. It seems like every time he touches the football he can score. No matter if he gets the ball on a reverse, catches a pass over the middle, or if he fields a punt and is forced to step back and wait for the hole to open up and then explodea through it. I mean wow this guy is amazing. I have followed this team all my life. The only other guy that I can think of is possibly my favorite football player of all-time (Randall Cunningham), and I do not think he is even close to D Jack.

I loved Randall as a player, I even stopped wearing a pair of sneakers my mom brought me just because he got hurt when I wore them. I'm sorry let me explain. Those sneakers were BRAND NEW. Not a few days old, I'm talking about fresh out the box! I wore them during a game when the Eagles played the Jets, and well true fans know the rest of the story. Well I NEVER EVER put those sneakers on my feet again.

With all that being said, D Jack is more exciting to me. I know football is a team sport, but I want him to get the ball every play. Shoot I would like to see him play DB and see if he could pick a few passes of and watch him take it to the house (just kidding) but that's how exciting he is to me. No disrespect to Cunningham, or Brian Westbrook, I just think D Jack is that amazing.

What do you think?

New Doc in town

So Cliff Lee is out and Roy "Doc" Halladay is in. I'm not going to lie to you guys, at first I didn't like the deal (Doc comes here and the Philies send prospects Kyle Drabek, Michael Taylor, and Travis d'Arnaud to Toronto. Next the Phillies send Lee to Seattle in return for three prospects). I was one of the guys that didn't want to let Lee leave the team. I was almost foaming at the mouth when I thought about having Doc, Lee, and Cole Hamels pitching in the first three games of the World Series (if they were lucky enough to make it back for a third straight season). However when I thought about it a little more, it's not that bad of a deal.

Lee is a great pitcher and 99.9% of all Phillies fans appreciate him and what he did for the team last season. However I also think that most will agree Doc is better. Maybe not by much, but he is better. And if there is any truth to the rumors that Lee was not planning to return to the team after this upcoming season, the trade makes even more sense. Now don't get me wrong, if Lee would have stayed this season along with Doc, and Cole, the Phillies would have most likely offered Lee arbitration. Which would have forced any team that wanted him to give the team a few draft picks in return. But would those draft picks turned out to be on the same level as the prospects they received from Seattle? That will remain an unknown.

Another reason I was a little hesitant on the deal was because I didn't want to let Drabek leave the farm system. However who knows if this guy will be great. At first I was hearing that he had the stuff to become one of the top pitchers in the majors. Now I am hearing he will be a third in the rotation type of pitcher. And supposedly this kid they received from Seattle (Phillippe Aumont) is also "supposed to be" the real deal. So if that is true, the deal isn't too bad.

The Phillies added the best pitcher in baseball, who appears to be very good when facing the New York Yankees (a team that the Phillies will most likely face if they make it back to the World Series) and reloaded their farm system. Would I have liked for them to keep Lee, yes, but do I understand the deal, of course. Yes it would have been great to see the team go all in and spend spend spend. But they aren't the Yankees, nor are they the Boston Red Sox. Maybe times will change when Doc leads this team to its second World Series championship in the last 3 years. But until that day comes, Phillies fans should embrace the deal and enjoy this era of good baseball.

Just a thought.

No Way!

My eyes must be playing tricks on me. There is noway that the Sixers just defeated the Warriors. Wait let me check the box score one more time. I mean I did watch the entire game, but like I said, my eyes must be playing tricks on me. WOW they aren't.

For those that missed the game, it was pretty pretty pretty good. Allen Iverson and Jrue Holiday looked impressive in the backcourt together. Holiday seemed to get the ball to Iverson when he needed it, and put A.I. in the right spots to score. That may be why he finished with 20 points on 7-10 shooting (Iverson also had four assist and only one turnover). Holiday also finished with double digit points (15) and also 6 assist. Those two looked fast and impressive all night long and appeared to give the Warriors problems.

However the real star of the game appeared to be Thaddeus Young. Young finished with 26 points and 14 rebounds...WOW. I would love to see the Sixers design more plays for Young and less for Iggy. No I am not taking a shot at Andre, but I just think Young has a lot of talent and if given a chance, he may be a special player.

Believe it or not, I actually still think that the Sixers will continue to get better every game (I know that makes every John Wall fan upset). Think about it, they have had a lead in every game since Iverson's return. But when they're forced to put the bench players in, they lose it. So plug in a healthy Lou Williams and Marreese Speights, and take out guys like Royal Ivey and Willie Green...hmm this team may be fun to watch. AGAIN I am not saying they will win anything major, but I do think they will make a run at the 6-8 seeds in the East.

I know this is just one win, but I have been watching this team all season long and I see something in them. This team may be cool to watch when they get healthy.

Fly Eagles Fly

Man what a game! What a GREAT game! First I must tip my hat to DeSean Jackson. This guy is one of the most exciting players I have ever watched. It seems like every time he touches the ball he has a chance to score. I am looking at his stats from the Eagles Week 14 win over the Giants, he had 6 catches for 178 yards and a touchdown. Oh yeah I forgot his AMAZING punt return for a touchdown. This guy is special. He really is.

Is it me or is Donovan McNabb having a good season. Shoot in the last 4 games he has been great and clutch. He has thrown for 6 td's and led his team to a few fourth quarter td's. 5 looks like he is having fun out there and looks loose. He actually looks happy out there on the field.

I know I may be getting ahead of myself, but this team is good. They are SCARY good. I am not sure what this season will bring us, but man ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. ANYTHING. I know the road to Miami is going to be hard, and I know this team has the talent to get there. However I know there are a few teams that will be in the way (Saints, Vikings, Cardinals). But man with a guy like Jackson and a QB like McNabb...ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!

Man lets go! I am hype. I tried to hide it, but it's hard to control myself as I watch the highlights from the game. This team may take this city on a wild and crazy ride. Next up 49ers!

Heisman

And the 2009 Heisman Trophy goes to Mark Ingram. Are you shocked? I'm not. However if I did have a vote I would have given it to Ndamukong Suh from Nebraska. He finished the regular season with 83 tackles (23 for a loss) and 12 sacks. How cool would it have been for him to become the first defensive tackle to win the award? It would have been awesome. But he didn't. So I guess I need to give credit to Ingram for winning the award.

Congrats Mark. You would have received my vote if Suh was not having such an amazing year. However Ingram you won the award and I loved how you showed so much emotion during your speech. Those tears showed how important and prestigious this award is. I am happy for you and hope that you continue to excel in college football and also that you have a great National Championship game.

Ingram was the best player in the best conference in the country, so I guess there should not be too many people that disagree with you winning the award. Along with Sue, you had the best conference championship performance and stepped up in the biggest game of the season (so far) for your team.

Congrats Mark and good luck.

Ehh

Ok let me get this out of my system, Iverson, Iverson, Iverson. Ok now that I got that over with, this team is not that good. I know what you are thinking, duh, everyone knew that. Well I am sorry! I knew they stunk but for some reason I felt like Iverson's first game was going to be a win.

Don't get me wrong, I had a ball at the game. The crowd was electric. Every time Iverson took the floor the crowd jumped to their feet and cheered for him. It was great to see the Wachovia Center packed again. Plenty of #3 jerseys and welcome back signs. But despite all of that, this team still found a way to blow a nice size lead.

First I have to say, Sam Dalembert stinks. I am sorry. Sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. What does he do well? Nothing. I mean maybe I am missing something. Maybe I do not see what he brings to the team. OR maybe I am right. Maybe the Sixers have one of the worst centers in the NBA.

Next Willie Green. Please stop! Stop playing! If you must play can you PLEASE do it for another team. Man You guys really know how to ruin a great night for the city.

It will be interesting to see how this team plays for the rest of the season. I did like how Iverson and some of the other guys (Young, Brand, and Iggy) played together. However I will be honest with you, I HAVE NO IDEA what this team will do. I mean I can see anything happening. They could go on a crazy run and win 10 straight or they could lose 10 straight. Who knows! I guess all I can hope for is an exciting season now that Iverson is back.

FYI

So tonight is the night that most people in the Philadelphia area have been talking about all week. The return of one of the greatest players in the history of the franchise. Allen Iverson returns to the place where it all started. I am listening to the radio and people are getting all worked up over the game. They are talking about how great tonight will be and how they cannot wait for the game to start. I cannot lie I feel the sameway.

Tonight should be special. It should be a night to remember. And if you even had ask yourself, yes I will be there. I am attending the game partly as a fan but mostly as a journalist interested to see how he will be received. Should be pretty awesome. He should get a nice long ovation when he is announced. Hmm I wonder who will be announced last, him or Iggy?

I am torn though. I do not know what to expect out of him tonight. Part of me feels like he will have an average NBA night. But the other part of me feels he may put on a show. How cool would it be to have Iverson hit the game winner and watch him do the Hulk Hogan ear thing. Man I may explode if that happens.

Well no matter what happens, I am just hoping to see a good game and enjoy the team's performance. For those that will not be at the game or watching it, feel free to follow me on twitter.com/jerv215. I will be taking plenty of pics and also updating you on all that is going on in the building.

Wow

Um can someone explain to me what is going on? Is this the week for being reunited with former teams? First it was the Sixers and Allen Iverson, and now this! For those that are lost, ESPN is reporting that the Philadelphia Phillies and Placido Polanco have reached a deal (with a physical pending). Do you guys like that move? I do.

Polanco is a career .300 hitter and shows much more plate discipline than former Phillies third basemen Pedro Feliz. I also like the move because he should be able to spell Chase Utley throughout the season. And anyone that watched the Phillies all last season knows that Utley plays much better when he receives rest.

To be honest with you, the move just makes sense. It will give the team a chance to move Shane Victorino down in the order, giving a much better hitter later in the lineup and will most likely move Polanco to the No.2 spot (between Jimmy Rollins and Utley). Shoot to be real with you guys, I am getting more and more excited as I read about Polanco. This guy has never struck out 50 times in a season, something this Phillies lineup can use...PLATE DISCIPLINE!

Man just when you think this team will can not surprise you, they do. This team is continuing to show its fans that they are trying to win every year and not just settling for regular season success. I hope they do not stop with Polanco. I honestly would look at adding John Lackey to the starting rotation and adding to the bullpen.

Wow I am hype for next season...I can smell a World Series rematch already. LETS GO!

Oh lets GO!

Oh happy day!!!!!!!! Oh happy day!!!!! Man words can not express how I feel right now. To quote Ice Cube "today was a good day." ESPN is reporting that the Sixers and Iverson have agreed on terms. That means my favorite athlete of all time is back.

I am excited for the press conference, and also excited that I will be at the game on Monday. I really do hope the city comes out and shows him the love that he should get for returning home. Again I am not crazy, this does not mean that the team will win a championship or anything like that. I just means that they will be a team that I want to watch. Do not get me wrong I never stopped liking the team. In fact I still loved them. But they were the family member that I loved in my heart but did not brag to all my friends about when they talked about their teams.

I cannot wait to go back home and turn on 2k10 and download the latest rosters with "The Answer" on my team. I am shocked that this day happened. I remember when he was traded and how I thought that it was over for good. Glad I was wrong.

Welcome Back A.I.! Welcome Back!

Almost done!

So reportedly the 76ers have offered the soon to be Hall of Famer, Allen Iverson, a one year deal. The deal is a lot less than what "The Answer" was making last season. But who cares about the money? Not me! Like I stated before I am just excited that he will most likely be coming back home.

Over the last few days I have heard many people state that they are happy that he will be back. But not everyone is happy. My one friend called me and said "let it go...just move on!" I replied "Nope, I am not ready to move on." You see the Allen Iverson situation is a lot like a bad relationship with a female. You know she is not the one that will make you happy forever (i.e. marriage/NBA Championship) but for right now she is perfect.

Look the Sixers stink. No matter who plays on the team they will. I mean you could bring back Dr. J and they would stink. For the past 3 seasons I have watched the team I grew up with display some off the worst basketball I have ever witnessed. And instead of tanking a season, they choose to win just enough games to make the playoffs and get smashed in the first round. I am not crazy. I am almost positive Iverson will not put this team over the top, he may actually make the team lose a few more games. However I will now have a reason to watch the team. There will now be a player on the team I can get excited to watch.

I honestly just want him to take us back. If he does I will sing "Oh happy day."

Not bad!

So I do not know how I am supposed to feel. Part of me wants to jump for joy because the team I love more than my own family (sike) won another game. And the other part of me refuses to get hype because they still showed a lot of inconsistency during the win.

I mean the game started off odd with the onsides kick that failed. An before you could blink, the birds were down 7. But I mean I'll take it. I am a very simple person. I just want to win. I do not care how it happens, I just want to win.

The offense played ok. Not great, just ok. DeSean Jackson is the ish. I cannot lie to you guys. He is now my favorite player on the team. Point blank. Also I have come to the realization that I live and die with this team. Shoot to be honest with you guys, when the game was going back and forth I was sitting here band mouthing Andy and the team, however when it was our game to win, I was excited (if you do not believe me check my twitter page twitter.com/jerv215).

For some reason this team is sucking me in AGAIN! I am a believer. I think this team will end up in the NFC championship game AGAIN and when they get there...well who knows what will happen. I know I just switched my topic from the game to the future, but who cares. I am hype. Time to celebrate and enjoy this ride.

Just do it!

So reports are coming out that the Sixers may be interested in bringing back my foat...Favorite of all time! How great would that be. I would love to see Iverson rock the red white and blue jersey and bring some excitement back to the team. I mean the team isn't going anywhere regardless so why not bring him back? It's not like he will mess up this great chemistry that the team has. It's not like he will destroy our great record!

Here are the positives that come from bringing him back. First attendance. Yeah I went there! The team is averaging around the amount that attends a high school freshman basketball game, not a varsity game...a freshman game! So right away the first couple of games will be a sell out. Also they will have a guy that can score and create his own shot. I mean we have all watched A.I. play so I do not need to convince you that he can get his own shot. Iverson also demands respect on the court from the opposing team. You have to know where he is at on the court every second. And lastly he moves everyone down a notch. Iggy becomes a robin, along with Brand and Young. They no longer have to be the man on the team. And Lou Will becomes a 6th man and is not forced to be a starter.

Now I know you guys are waiting to hear what my negatives are, and you probably already know what they would be. However I will be a little brat right now and not get into that. I will not bash my foat anymore. I will convince myself that everything is all good and the team is doing the best thing. So if you don't like that, tough luck. Leave a comment stating your case and get thrashed as I change your mind!

Sad day

I know I went off a few post ago telling my favorite player in the NBA (Allen Iverson) to just retire, but I honestly was hoping he could right the ship and get it together. I was very happy when I saw him drop 18 against Golden State in November and I was slightly convinced he had a happy marriage in Memphis. Boy was I wrong.

For those that have not heard yet, reports are coming out that Allen Iverson will retire. Iverson is a 10-time All-Star, four time scoring champion, and has the 2nd highest playoff scoring average (29.7, first is Michael Jordan). Iverson is arguably one of the best small guys to ever play the game. In my book he is a first ballot hall of famer. He brought excitement and toughness to the game and influenced the NBA more than most players.

Although there have been players that have sported corn rolls and tattoos before "The Answer," none made it more acceptable than him. He was a warrior on the court and played every game like it was his last. That is how I will remember him and I will be courtside when his #3 jersey is raised into the rafters at the Wachovia Center.

However most will choose to remember him for his off the court antics. His childish behavior and "lack of respect" for the game. And oh yeah how could I ever forget "Practice!" So sad. It's sad that people will choose that stuff over him leading a 76ers team to the 2001 NBA Finals by himself. Yeah there were 4 other guys on the floor with him, but I mean lets be real, WHO WERE THEY! And that is not a shot at those guys because I have a lot of love for them. But lets be real, minus Mutumbo, who do you remember from that team?

Damn it's a sad day. I honestly hope that he changes his mind and plays his part so that a Boston, or Cleveland picks him up for a playoff run. Shoot and if all else fails, come home! Come home to Philly. The team needs you because they couldn't fill the stadium if there gave away every ticket. But if we have truely witnessed Iverson for the last time, we have watched one of the best to ever do it!

Sunday, November 22, 2009

I'll take it

So, we won...we won... Do you care? Are you hype because the Birds have ended their 2 game losing streak? Lets not all speak at one time! Ok well me first. I am slightly. Although that win was ehh to me, we desperately needed one. I know I know it was the Bears, but hey good teams take advantage of the lesser teams when they can.

Don't get me wrong, I am not super hype, but I am a tad bit happy. I thought I was losing my mind when I noticed we were running the ball. Shady (LeSean) McCoy ran the ball 20 times for 99 yards. Man when is the last time one of our backs ran the ball 20 times in one game? Shady had a good game, BUT if I see that kid dance behind the line of scrimmage instead of just hitting the hole, I WILL LOSE MY MIND. I know what you are thinking, "this guy is a typical Philly fan. He is finding a way to complain about a solid performance." Well screw it. It is what it is! I honestly think he should have finished with more yards but he chose to dance instead of going hard through the openings the line created for him. I will give him the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to him being a rookie. But if this team is going to be without Westbrook for a while, he needs to not act like a rookie and play smart.

Now that is how you use the "wildcat." Finally that crap worked. Finally Vick looked like more than just a side show. It was sad to see Vick get caught from behind, because I remember the days when he made you miss and turned on the afterburners and scored. He still has the ability to make you miss, but he has definitely lost a step.

Last but not least good game 5! Not a great game but a very good game. You still did your normal behind the receiver throws and also overthrew a few. But you did lead the team down the field at the end of the game to a score. GREAT job. But I am sure some of your haters will find a way to say you should have thrown for 7 touchdowns and 500 yards. Whatever tell them eat some breakfast first!

Man it feels good. I started this post very relaxed and not crazy hype about the win, but I am not sure if you guys can tell but I AM SUPER HYPE!

E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!!

Thanks for all the support everyone and feel free to follow me on twitter @jerv215

Still stink

I do not know how many different ways I can say it, but the Sixers stink. I watched their game Friday night vs. Memphis expecting to see a win, but boy was I wrong.

This team is a joke. Yes they have a few nice young guys that would be great pieces to the puzzle, however Fridays game showed what they are lacking. This team is lacking the center piece. You know that piece you start your puzzle with and build around it.

I watched Memphis' center piece (Rudy Gay) scorch the team. Gay finished with 33 points and 10 rebounds and he made it looks so easy. It didn't matter who was guarding him, he scored. He hit jumpers, drove to the basket ad when he could, he was filthy on the rim. He also outplayed the star of the 76ers (Iggy). He made Iggy reveal his true colors, and showed he is nothing more than a good #3 option on a good team.

Man this sucks. It really stinks watching the team you loved your whole life get beat by lesser competition. You know what, I don't have it today. I cannot continue to write about this team because I do not know how many different ways I can say they stink.

Blow it UP!

Who cares!

I am a four for four guy. For all of my non sports fans, that means I love all four professional sports teams in Philly. With that being said let me start this off by saying I am a huge 76ers fan. I am 28 years old and I think out of those 28 years, I have been to about 18-20 season openers. So I have been a witness of the good times and the bad. I was excited when they drafted Iverson, and disgusted when they drafted Shawn Bradley.

So without further delay, this team sucks. They are frustrating to watch and I feel like I need to just show up to the games with a brown bag on my head. I know what you are thinking, they have a pretty cool team. Iggy, Thad, Brand, and a bunch of other players. And I would respond by saying who? Oh yeah the guys on the team that will win enough games to not get a good lottery pick but not enough to actually make a run at a championship.

If you know me, you know I am not a fan of Iggy (Andre Iguodala). I once felt like he was"trash" but my thoughts about him are changing. He is "ok" but not a franchise player. He would be a great fit for teams like the Lakers, Spurs, Suns etc. Teams that do not need him to be the #1 option or even the #2 option. Unfortunately for this team, they are asking him to be the man and he is just not capable of that. Yeah he can do it every few games but the Sixers need him to be the go to guy every night.

Take Wednesday nights game vs. the Bobcats. Iggy had 25 points and 5 rebounds. And I yawned. Because again "who cares?" Not this guy. This guy is sick and tired of this team. I want them to blow it up again. So that they can get a Kevin Durant type player in the draft and not be forced to pick from the middle of the pack. I do not want them to win 39 to 41 games and get knocked out in the first round. Oh wait I forgot win the first game of the series suckering fans like myself to believe they can win the series...but they never do.

I just want to win! Is that too much to ask? If it is, I apologize...but if it's not...JUST DO IT!

Sunday, November 15, 2009

Enough is enough

When is enough enough? Why do we continue to allow this guy to stay around? How come we overlook his bad clock management ability? In case you cannot tell, I am just tired of Andy Reid. I am tired of this guy getting the plays in late. I am tired of the lack of a running game. I am just tired of the whole thing.

Yeah McNabb did not have a great game but it is honestly going to suck that majority of people will put the blame on him and not on the big guy. The play calling was horrible, we hardly ran the ball and at times the offensive line looked like a high school team.

Ok I'm trying not to spaz but can someone explain to me how the hell you have first and goal from the ONE YARDLINE and you settle for a field goal? You run a dive out of a split back formation on first down and I believe the next two plays were pass plays (but I could be wrong). Whatever happened to a HB dive out of I-formation OR a FN QB SNEAK! Gosh man you guys are killing me. You had 5 red zone appearances and only 2 tds. THAT'S NOT GOOD!

Do you know how big a win on Sunday would have been? Do you Andy? DO YOU? Well I do! The Cowboys fall to the Packers (oh I'm sorry in case you forgot the Cowboys are the team that beat you in WK 9) and that would have made you tied for first in the division. But like always you blew it. WAY TO GO!

I have so much I want to say but honestly you guys are not worth my time. Yes I am still a fan and yes I still believe but today is not the day to say how much I am a fan...today is the day to say how much you stink Andy!

Rookie of the Year

Is it too early for Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks to be named the 2009-10 NBA Rookie of the Year? I mean have you guys been watching this kid? If not please do, you are missing out on a special one. I know it is very early in the season but this guy is putting up some great numbers and is sending a message to all the kids that do not want to attend college want and follow in his footsteps.

In the young NBA season, Jennings has only one game were he did not score double digits (9 points...but his team won) and in his most recent performance he scored 55 points. DAMN! I know, I know what you are thinking, this guy must have been jacking up shots. Not really. In fact he did not have any points in the 1st qt, and only had 10 at the half. He scored 29 points in the 3rd qt alone and finished 3 points shy of Wilt the Stilts' rookie record (58).

Jennings' 55 point performance came 4 days after he scorched All-Star point guard Chauncey Billups for 32 points and 9 assist. Yeah you read that correctly, Jennings gave Chauncey 32 and led his Bucks to a 108-102 win over Denver.

The kid is averaging 25.6 points and 5.1 assist per game and has led his team to a 5-2 record. I know it is early but wow if you are not in Milwaukee and have the option of watching this kid every night, do like I am going to do, purchase the NBA league pass and get your popcorn ready.

How good is Cutler?

I was one of those people that believed in Jay Cutler and felt like he got a raw deal in Denver. But I must admit that was without watching him play that often. I was going off of what people were saying about him and how a lot were making him the next great QB. But after watching him play majority of his games this year, my thoughts on him have changed.

I am not going to say he sucks...but he is not as good as most think. He has a great arm and is one tough SOB (when he is not crying about stuff), BUT his accuracy/decision making is horrible. So far this season he has 14 TD's and 17 INT's. Um I am not an NFL expert, but that is not good. During this season he has had four multiple interception games, three of those four games he had more INT's than TD's. Um is that good? NO!

In 2006 he threw 14 INTs, and 18 in 2007. And like I said earlier he has 17 already this season. So unless he gets on a crazy hot streak and decides to not throw an INT for the rest of the season, he will throw a career high this year. Also his QB rating is the lowest it has been (76) since entering the league in 2006.

To his credit he does not have the WR's that he had in Denver nor is his O-line as good in Chicago, but that does not mean he should be on the way to shattering his career high of INT's.

I still think he is a solid QB, but I no longer feel like he is a "top of the line" QB. Maybe he will turn it around but I highly doubt that will be this year. He is on the verge of becoming a hasbeen, I hope that does not happen because the league needs the Bears to be relevent.

Steve Nash

It is amazing to me how Steve Nash appears to be "back" this season. In my last post I went on a rant about how the Suns were doing their thing so far and how Nash was having a great season. So many people decided to email me privately (instead of commenting on my post) and say that Nash has not matched up against any top flight point guards so far. I responded by saying "so are you telling me that Baron Davis, Monta Ellis, Jameer Nelson, Rajon Rondo, and Gilbert Arenas are not some of the better PGs in the game?" Most responded "lets see what he does against CP3 (Chris Paul)!"

Well for those that have not gotten into the NBA season yet, the Suns and Hornets battled Wednesday night and one team dominated the other. Drum role please!

Nash led his Suns to a convincing 124-104 victory over the Hornets, including a 75 point first have...DAMN! Now I will be honest the Suns appear to be a better team and CP3 did not have a bad game. Howeva Nash had a better game individually than Paul (in my opinion). Nash finished the game with 12 points (5-6 from the field) and 10 assist vs. CP3's 25 points and 6 assist. Now I know what you're thinking, how can you say Nash had a better game? Well I love when a PG gets a double double and also does not turn the ball over that much. I know Nash has better people around him so therefor he may not have to do as much as Paul but to me Nash makes those guys on his team (Channing Fry and Jared Dudley) relevant.

Nash is averaging 17.5 points and 12.6 assist a game. He also has put up a double double in 6 of the 8 games so far. In my opinion Nash is having a greats season and has now made the Suns a team I will watch every chance I get.

The Rising Suns?

When I talk about how hot the Rising Suns are I am not talking about the the white on white Jordans that have not come out yet in most areas (but I already have them), I am talking about the Phoenix Suns led by Steve Nash. Are you shocked? Well I am!

When the season started most people like myself counted the Suns out including Nash. All people talked about were the Lakers, Cavs, Spurs and Celtics. Oh yeah i forgot the Mavs and Magic. But show me one analyst that predicted the Suns would be this good so early. I am far from a Nash fan but I must admit he looks good so far in the young season. This guy is averaging 18.3 points and 12.9 assist per game...WOW! I know I know who have the Suns played so far. Wait didn't they just beat the Celtics not too long ago? Yes! Didn't they defeat the Heat also? Yes! And I mean I know the Sixers are not good but Nash dropped 20 assist that game and led his team to a win on back to back nights during their first East coast road trip.

I am not saying that the Suns are going to win the NBA championship, in fact I know they will not. However I do think they will be one of the top four teams in the West (barring injury) along with the Lakers, Spurs and Nuggets.

It's suprises like this one that makes the NBA season great to me. I am very excited to see how the season pans out and which teams fall off and which teams stay afloat.

Dag

Man of all the teams to lose to why did it have to be the Cowboys? Explain to me this, how can the mighty offense that looked soooooo good against the Giants look soooo mediocre against the Cowboys? And why the hell did Andy decide to kick the FG instead of going for the TD when you were out of timeouts and down 7? I just do not understand how he thinks sometimes!

I just don't get it. I still have no clue what kind of team the 2009 Eagles are. Are they the team that pounded the Giants or the team that came up short against the Raiders? Are they a team that can only win when they get big plays or can they manufacture a 10 play drive to win the game!

Why the hell didn't DeSean Jackson get the ball more? I mean I know he gets a lot of attention on the field but why not run a reverse or the wildcat so that he has more chances to make something happen. Shoot why not allow LeSean McCoy more chances also. How about design more plays for Brent Celek, I mean he does have a chance to make the Pro Bowl this year so he must have some talent.

You know what...I'm done. There is nothing more that I can say. I am pissed and hate the Cowboys. Thanks Eagles for continuing the pain that the city is feeling after the World Series. You guys blew a chance to be the "man" again in the city....Nice Job!

Just retire....PLEASE

Ok anyone that knows me is well aware that Allen Iverson is my favorite player of all time. I am very happy that I had a chance to watch his entire professional career. He is one of the best to ever touch a basketball and one of the most popular players off all time. I never thought I would say what I am about to say, BUT I have to. PLEASE retire. PLEASE!

I defended you when you pulled stunt after stunt when you were a member of my 76ers. When you went to Denver I wanted you to win an NBA championship (unless my Sixers had a chance) and felt that you had the "supporting cast" you needed. When you got traded to Detroit I felt that you were finally on the right team. And when they wanted to bench you I understood why you were upset. I agreed that a player of you caliber did not deserve to come off the bench. But I cannot back you up anymore.

Please man just retire. You are messing up your legacy. You are making it easy for all of your "haters" to remember you for your stubborn moments and when you refused to come off the bench. People hardly remember when you crossed Jordan, or when you stepped over Tyronn Lue.

I would love to see you return to form and play on a team like the Cavs and win a championship. But if you cannot do that and accept that you will come off the bench for 95% of the teams in the league then just retire. Allow your true fans the chance to remember you for being a great player and not how the media portrays you. You had a great career and will be a first ballot hall of famer. You are one of the greatest scorers ever and that is how I will remember you. But please take my advice and just retire.

Come on Tim!

Did you guys here about Tim Lincecum getting pulled over for speeding and having 3.3 grams of marijuana on him? WOW. I do not condone using any illegal substance, however if you choose to do that type of stuff, be smart.

Explain to me this, why didn't he do his "dirt" at home? Why do athletes continue to do things in public that they shouldn't be doing at all? Do they really feel they are invincible and are above the law? What an example for the kids that are trying to get to where he is at.

Word of advice Tim, if you have to smoke do it at home. It's private and the chances of you getting caught are very slim. You are in the prime of your career and have a chance to be the elite pitcher in baseball. Don't mess up your public view by smoking in public.

True Phan!

So I met the Phillies at the train station today along with a few supporters of the team. We all gathered and cheered/said thanks as they arrived at 30th St.. station in Philadelphia. I know what you are thinking.."who does that?" Me that's who. I am a true fan of this team (all of my teams) and appreciate what they have done in the past three years (despite coming up short this year). The crowd wasn't as packed as I thought it would be, however those that did make it made their presence felt. It was great being at the train station with the few fans that showed up as we yelled out Phillies chants and clapped for each guy as that hopped off the train.
You see I am a real fan. I wear my emotions on my sleeve when it comes to my teams. I can front like this did not hurt but as the day went on and reality set in, the pain grew and it was obvious to me how much this run meant to me. I did not think the game was over until the last out was recorded. Call me crazy but I really felt like they had a chance and were going to win. But I guess I was wrong.

I believe that this group of players are a special bunch. They are very close to becoming THE team in baseball. They have a stud at 1st, 2nd, short, center, right and catcher. And they have a pretty good guy at 3rd and left, not to mention they have a very solid rotation. I know it may seem strange but I honestly stayed up a little while after Game 6 trying to think how this team can make another run in 2010.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say thanks guys and I hope that you realize how much the fans in this city love you and appreciate what was accomplished.

Congrats to NY

As I have stated in a lot of my past post, I give credit when it is due. Congrats to the city of New York, the Yankees, and to all their TRUE fans. You guys dethroned the defending champions to claim # 27. You guys have a great team and deserve to be crowed the 2009 World Series Champions of baseball.

Despite the series not having the outcome that I would have liked, it went six games and was one of the better series in the past years. I learned a few things about both teams during the six games.

First the Yankees. They are a great team filled with All-Star caliber players at almost every position. Derek Jeter is the best shortstop of his generation and the only Yankee I do not "dislike!" A-Rod finally started to show why he is the highest paid player in baseball and should silence some of his "on the field haters," he will always have his off the field haters. I also learned what a luxury it is to have a guy like Mariano Rivera. He may not be perfect, but he is almost perfect. He turns a 9 inning game into an 8 possibly 7 inning game for the starters. WOW, so lucky!

Now my team. You guys showed what heart and passion you guys have for the game. I feel like you guys fought till the fat lady decided to sing. We are set at almost every position for next year, but we must revamp the bench. We need a true right handed batter, and a utility guy that can spell Chase and also Feliz. We also need a back up for Ibanez, because he will be one year older and his skills will diminish (you cannot escape father time...unless you decide to take stuff like A-Roid). We also may need to add an arm to the rotation. Man Roy Halladay would look great in red and white pinstripes! Also depending on the health of some of our bullpen guys, we may need to re-up there also.

Thanks for a great year guys...and don't be shocked if this is the matchup in the 2010 World Series.

How good is Boston?

I know that I should not judge the Boston Celtics on their performance against my 76ers, but man that team is good. I mean their starting five goes without saying, but I honestly think people are overlooking their bench. They have added to their bench guys like Rasheed Wallace, Marquis Daniels, and Shelden Williams to go along with Eddie House, Tony Allen, and Glenn Davis. WOW! This team is huge, experienced and good.

I hardly like giving the Celtics credit but I am a realist and they are the real deal. Defensively they are only giving up 79.8 points per game and are holding teams to 42.9% from the field. WOW! I know it's early and things like an injury to a key player can happen BUT man they look good right now. They are clicking on all cylinders and are making teams work for every bucket.

I know what you're thinking...Who else have you watched? Well I have watched Orlando once, and the Cavs and Lakers a few times and they all look good. But there is something about this Boston team that scares me. I mean think about this lineup: Rondo, Pierce, R. Allen, Sheed Wallace, and KG! DAG! Not too many teams in the NBA can handle that lineup.

I know it is early and I haven't talked much about the NBA so far but the few games I have watched makes me believe this will be a great season.

Thanks Chase

This is for you Harry Kalas...Chase Utley you are the man!

Next time you're found, with your chin on the ground

There's a lot to be learned, so look around:

Just what makes that little old ant

Think he'll move that rubber tree plant.

Anyone knows an ant, can't

Move a rubber tree plant.

But he's got high hopes, he's got high hopes,

He's got high apple pie, in the sky hopes.

So any time you're getting low 'Stead of letting go,

Just remember that ant.
Oops there goes another rubber tree plant.

Oops there goes another rubber tree plant.
Oops there goes another rubber tree plant.

I tip my hat to you Chase! You have tied the great Reggie Jackson with the most homers in World Series history (5). Wow this guy is locked in and focused. I just hope it rubs off onto the rest of the team because that is the only way they will win Game 6. Also thanks Cliff Lee. You did what an "ace" is supposed to do and that is control the opposing team long enough to allow your teams bats to come alive. Yeah you had a few rough innings but you battled and you did your best.

Man what a game! What a great game! This team continues to fight and that is impressive. Great job guys. I am a little worried about the bullpen and also some of the guys like Ryan Howard that are in a slump. However I am not going to be bothered with that tonight. Nah I am just going to continue to believe in this team and ask that they try their best.

For all those people that think I do not give credit when it is deserved, you are wrong! This Yankees team is terrific. One of the best I have ever watched. Both teams are playing well and who ever wins Game 6 will have to earn it.

Good luck boys, PLEASE fight and stay alive!

P.S. My father and I are still undefeated at games we attend!

That hurts!

So I figured if I waited a little while that would ease the pain. I was wrong! I have no idea what to say! I honestly do not get it. I have not felt like this in some time. Usually the team that makes me so mad and disgusted plays every Sunday at 1 p.m.

Hey you know what, IT'S NOT OVER. I was taught when you have your back against the wall and EVERYONE is counting you out, YOU COME OUT FIGHTING! And that is what I expect from you guys. Come out like there is n tomorrow. I thank you for 2008, but that does not matter anymore. Nobody is respecting you guys for that year YOU NEED this one. I believe in you guys and I know a lot of people still do.

Crazier things have happened (like the Red Sox coming back from being down 3-0). Will it be hard, YES! But is it possible, YES! Come on guys I still believe and you and feel like you guys can force a game 7! All you have to do is win one game at a time. All we need is for the bats to come alive. Be patient at the plate just like you guys did in Game 1.

#54 LET IT GO! It's over with. You have to move on...and good luck in Game 5, I will be in the building...and oh yeah I AM COMING WITH MY POP!

I don't get it!

Hey #35 (that's your name for now on) what the H-E double hockey sticks is wrong with you? You honestly do not get it! I have supported you ALL year long. When everyone said "Aww man he stinks" or used other words I cannot type, I stuck up for you. I would tell them "My dude will snap out of it." Man was I wrong. You fooled me for the first two innings of Game 3, and after you got squeezed against Mark Teixeira, the female in you came out (no disrespect to my female followers). You began to sulk and the next thing you know...A-Roid hits a two run homer! Man o man! You stick. I honestlty do not want to see you pitch this year anymore. If this series goes 7 I do not want to see you pitch in that game! I would rather see J.A. Happ give it a shot. Because honestly #35 you don't care right now. Just get your mind right for the next season.

Although we are down fellas I know it's not over! One thing about this team this year, they win when they have to! They are excellent when their backs are against the wall. Well my friends the time is now! It's NOW OR NEVER! There is no turning back. YOU MUST WIN! Please go out there and do what you know how to do best and that is WIN! Ryan Howard, YOU MUST start to hit again. Shane, get your mind right and lets go.

I'm done there is nothing more for me to say. JUST DO IT!

Game 2

As hard as it is for me to say this, I have to tip my hate to A.J. He pitched a hell of a game. He kept the Phillies guessing and the few times he "got in trouble," he got out of it with ease. He did what he was supposed to do and that was to put his team in a position to win the game.

Pedro, I am not mad at your performance either. You pitched well my friend. You honestly did what I asked you to do, it just sucks that our bats could not take advantage of the chances we had.

Guys please remember what I said after Game 1, it's the first to 4 not 1. Go get them in Game 3.

Oh yeah I'm sorry how could I forget! Ms. Keys! Ms. Keys. Ms. Keys! Wow! She never fails to impress me. Thanks Mr. Camera man for all of your tasteful cameras shots of her.

Do you beLEEve?

Man what a game! Cliff Lee was marvelous in Game 1. He had 10 k's and 0 walks in his first appearance in the World Series. Even when Lee did get behind in the count he threw the right pitch to get the batter out!

For those people tha watched the game, how about that behind the back catch he made! I am so filled with joy right now all I can say is thanks Lee and hopefully the rest of the staff can keep it up.

Now it's time for me to face the music. If you have followed my stuff during the playoffs I owe some words of praise to Chase Utley. He definitely came up big in Game 1. 2 home runs and always looked calm and in charge when he was involved in the game. Chase I am man enough to give you praise for your play when it's deserved. And after Game 1 you deserve it! I guess the time off helped you.

Good job guys but please remember it's the first to 4 not 1.

P.S. How about those Yankees fans? I am not talking trash because it's a 4 game series, I am just asking about all of the fans that left early...WOW didn't expect that from them...NOT COOL!

Finally it's here!

I honestly couldn't sleep Monday night. What better way to decide who will wear the baseball crown than to have two teams that represent two city's that do not like each other.

One team is the defending champs, and the other team is the most popular teams in all sports. Both teams have fans that are not know for being too nice to opposing teams.

Game 1 is not just Broadway vs. Broad St. it's C.C. vs. Lee ( 2 former AL Cy Young award winners). It's C.C. vs. the last team to defeat him in the playoffs. The outstanding Phillies outfielders vs. the Yankees explosive lineup. The list goes on and on.

Man I am so hype I can hardly type. How cool would it be to see the Phillies become the back to back World Series Champions by defeating the Yankees? To me it's the only way I'd want it!

LETS PLAY BALL!

NBA Preview

Forgive me for taking so long with my NBA thoughts. It has a lot to do with the World Series excitement and the fact that my team will be a mid-level team in the East (76ers).

However anyone who tells you that the NBA is not putting out a good product is wrong. The West is loaded and the East has a bunch of teams also. And ever since Kevin Durant arrived in the NBA, it seems like the young guys are getting better every year.

With that being said here is what I am looking forward to this season. I want to see who comes out of the East. Every team in the East that was considered a "contender" added to their teams during the off-season. Boston added R. Wallace, Orlando added Vince Carter (along with a lot of role players), and Cleveland added the Daddy (Shaq). All three teams have a real good chance to win the East and the NBA championship.

In the West I want to see what L.A. will do. Can Kobe continue to keep it up? Will the addition of Ron Artest hurt them or help them? Will the Spurs get back to the Finals? Is Richard Jefferson the missing piece to the puzzle? What will the Mavs do now that they added Marion? Is this the year for Dirk and Jason Kidd? Will Denver be able to get to the Finals or will they come up short again?

Now the moment we have all been waiting for my predictions.

Rookie of the Year: Tyreke Evans (Sacramento Kings)
Defensive Player of the Year: Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic)
Most Valuable Player: LeBron James
Scoring Champ: Dwayne Wade
NBA Finals: Spurs vs. Celtics
Champs: Spurs

Enjoy the season and if you have the League Pass a few teams that may be fun to watch outside of the big name teams, Oklahoma City, L.A. Clippers (when Blake is healthy), and Memphis.

Pedro in Game 2

So it's Pedro in Game 2. I am shocked and also somewhat sad (in a male sports fan way). It was all good just a year ago. Kid Cole (who in the house where I watch playoff games will not have his name mentioned) was lights out. He was a guaranteed "W." Now it's almost a guarantee that he will not make it out of the 5th inning and that he will give up at least 2 homers.

How good would it be for a Phillies fan to know that in Game 1 you had Lee and in Game 2 you had #35 if they were both pitching how we expect them to. Instead you are sending out Pedro in the Bronx so that he can hear numerous chants from the ever so classy Yankees fans. I have a feeling that in Game 2 I will get tired of hearing chants of "who's your daddy!"

With all that being said I think that Pedro will hold his own in Game 2 and feel like the Phillies will be able to leave Yankees stadium with a split. I honestly hope it is Game 1 because that will be the ultimate blow to all their fans who have been texting me saying that this will be an easy series for the Yanks.

And thanks George Steinbrenner for adding fuel to the disrespect fire. For those that missed it George said that the Yankees are looking forward to winning #27! Wow! Wow! I love how nobody is giving the team any respect at all. I wonder if back to back titles will demand respect? I guess we will have to wait and see.

Phillies in 6

History...I guess

So for the first time in NFL history three teams are undefeated through the first seven weeks of the season. That's good for those teams (Colts, Broncos, and Saints), but are we witnessing history because those teams are "just that good" or is it because the NFL had a lot of BAD teams?

I believe it's because the NFL is filled with a lot of bad teams.

Look at Denver first. Two of their six wins have come against Oakland (yeah I know they beat my Eagles) and Cleveland. These two teams have combined for three wins so far this season.

The Colts have three wins vs. the Titans (0 wins), the Jags (three wins) and the Dolphins (two wins). So that would suggest that those teams are not good right?

The Saints have three wins vs. the Dolphins (two wins), the Lions (one win) and the Bills (three wins). Neither one of those teams appear to be a good team also.

In the NFL today there are 10 teams with losing records and five teams with .500 records. That means almost half the league does not have a winning record. That is crazy.

So does that mean that the NFL is a weak league, or that the teams on top of their divisions are "just that good?" I mean I am not trying to take anything from the teams that are undefeated but I am not a believer in how they have gotten some of their wins!

That's perfect

So Game 6 of the ALCS was postponed because of the rain! That's HUGE. Why you ask? I'll tell you why! If the Yankees do not win Game 6 both teams will pitch their ace in Game 7 Monday. So that means both will most likely not be available till Game 3 of the World Series. WOW!

That means Lee and Hamels will face the No. 2 and 3 guys in the first two games. Also that both aces will only be able to pitch two times in the series instead of a possible three times if it goes seven. That is huge.

I do not know how that makes yall feel but that makes my day.GO PHILLIES!

Friday, October 23, 2009

I figured it out

So I was at a random bar for Game 5 of the ALCS and my plan was to watch the game in peace. I have never been the one to hide my feelings, so naturally I was cheering for the Angels. Not because I want to play them in the World Series (because honestly I do not care who the Phillies play), but because IF the Yankees win the ALCS I want C.C. to pitch in Game 7 and to have one extra game under his belt before they face us.

Back to the game. The Angels are up 4-0 and I am thinking "yes there will at least be a Game 6." I go to the bathroom and come out and see the score is now 6-4 and I yelled out a few words that I am not allowed to type in my blog. But since the Angels are not my team I wasn't to mad, UNTIL I here a man that had to be in his 70's yell from across the bar at me "that's what we do baby!" I said "no not you, please buddy NOT YOU!" That man and I went back and forth all game and we exchanged some priceless quotes as we talked about the possibilities of our team facing each other in the World Series.

I wrote all of that to say I understand why people HATE the Yankees. I mean here I was in some random bar enjoying the game and AS SOON as the Yankees do something I hear "that's what we do baby!" This guy and the countless other fans were quiet until they took the lead. Shoot they were quiet when the Angels won the game also.

I am going to say it again, the Yankees have not made it yet! Yes I do think they will make it but they did not make it yet! ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE...ANYTHING! So please give my team the respect they deserve and stop acting as if the Yankees have made it already and shoot if they do don't act as if they are the champs. Last time I checked we were the "world f'n champions!"

Thursday, October 22, 2009

Did I miss something?

As I celebrated on Broad St. I observed many things. But there was one thing that actually disturbed me. There were numerous chats of "Bleep the Yankees!" Um did I miss something? Did they win the ALCS yet?

Yeah I know it looks as if they will face the Phillies in the World Series, but they didn't get there yet! Maybe it's the Yankee hater in me that is writing this. Or maybe it's the fact that I don't understand why the Yankees are being treated like they are the defending champs.

Don't get me wrong I do think the Yankees will represent the AL in the Series but I would not be shocked if they blow it like they did against the Red Sox.

I honestly would love to beat the Yankees in the World Series. But please national and local media LET THEM GET THERE FIRST!

And when they do get there please save me a Broadway vs. Broad St. red shirt sz XL.

4 more till we party!

Feels good

Congrats guys! Congrats to Ryan Howard for being named the 2009 NLCS MVP. You deserved it man. Sorry you were unable to extend your RBI streak, however I have a feeling you'll trade it in for another trip to the World Series. Start a new one against whichever team we play.

Words cannot express how the city feels right now. I could rip Cole for another lackluster performance in Game 5 but I won't. You know what you need to do in order for this team to win it all.

I honestly do not know which team I'd want to see the Phillies face. All I do know is 4 more wins! 4 more wins.

To quote the great Ryan Howard "we've got one more step then we've got action!"

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Thank Heaven for Number Eleven

Man what a game, what a game. As I was sitting there watching the game I was thinking what can I say if this team doesn't win. What will I talk about? Who will I fault? Do I blame Pedro Feliz for his throwing error or for his lack of performance in clutch spots all postseason? Nah! Do I praise Carlos Ruiz for his outstanding play all series despite a loss? Nah. And then it happened, Jimmy Rollins showed why this team should NEVER be counted out of a game.

Thank you Jimmy for making today a good day. You came up big in a very big moment. Thank you for reminding the city why you are a former M.V.P. Thank you for confirming my thoughts of you being the best shortstop in the history of the franchise. For lack of a better phrase "Jimmy you are the man!"

Hey Jimmy if it's not too much trouble would you mind giving Cole a pep talk. I have a feeling he will be the starter for Game 5 and well although he won Game 1, he still has not looked like the Cole of last year. Jimmy let Cole know that he can do it. He is still one of the best lefties in the game. He still has one of the best fastball/changeup combos in the game. I honestly hope that the rally towels and the energy of the fans does enough to get Cole going. Let him know we are behind him 100% and that all will be forgotten if he comes out and pitches like his is supposed to pitch. Thanks!

Oh Jimmy can you also let Ryan Howard know that his hot streak is not going unnoticed! Ryan is showing the world what we have all witnessed for years. I am not saying he is the best in the game but he is up there. Keep it up Ryan, and LETS GO PHILLIES!

Thank God for the Phillies

Hey Andy give me a call, I can play offensive line. Shoot give me a chance seems like everyone else is getting one.

How do you come into the season with a put together offensive line? How do you start the season with a right side that includes a guy coming of MAJOR surgery, and a guy that has not played football in a few years (and he has not played this year either, but you can find him all over the internet).

How do you take on a team like the Oakland Raiders, who have a pretty good secondary and front four, and decide NOT to run the ball? How do you run the ball 14 times and throw it 46 times when your QB did not have TWO seconds to throw the ball.

I feel like crap today! I honestly thought that if I held of from writing my blog directly after the game, I may feel a little better. But I don't! I am embarrassed because my team couldn't beat the Oakland Raiders.

You know what I am not going to waste anymore time on the Eagles. Yes I still love them and bleed green BUT I will not give them anymore time when there is a team like the Phillies in action.

Cliff Lee was marvelous in Game 3. He is making guys like myself look foolish for even questioning who should have been the Game 1 starter of the NLDS. Lee has shown he is definitely the ace of the team. Thanks Lee, I mean that from the bottom of my Phillies' heart. You and Ryan Howard are obviously on a mission, and that is to become World Champions again!

For those that do not know Lee tied a Phillies record for strikeouts in a playoff game (10) and Howard has had a R.B.I. in every game during that playoffs (a record also). You guys along with the rest of the team are making the city proud and we thank you.

Hey after this run is over would you guys mind talking to the Green team? They need advice on how to win. Yeah you're right they won't listen because they are the "gold standard." HA PLEASE! Anyhow good luck in Game 4 boys.

Friday, October 16, 2009

Come on Chase!

So for the second game in a row Chase Utley does the unthinkable. In Game 1 he messes up a double play allowing the Dodgers to stay alive and next thing you know, BOOM a two run homerun and the Dodgers are down 1.

On to Game 2. Pedro pitches a gem and now its Park time. Yeah he gets in a jam BUT he gets the batter to hit into a double play BUT Mr. Utley finds away to throw the ball away. I honestly sat there with my mouth wide open. I couldn't believe "the best second baseman in the game" would make such a a crucial mistake in back to back games.

Chase you honestly owe the city. You got lucky in the first game because the team bailed you out by scoring more runs. But in Game 2 they couldn't. And then with a chance to extend the game in 9th to get the hottest hitter in the postseason up, you fail!

Chase I will say it again YOU OWE us. This defeat hurts a lot. Not because the series is tied but because we had the game until your blooper.

Thanks a lot Chase, once again I want you to realize you owe us.

Is Cole back?

Hollywood Hamels must like going back home to California because minus the one inning (thanks Chase and Jimmy for screwing up the double play) Cole pitched well. I give credit where credit is due and my friend you deserve it.

I'm not saying Cole pitched great but at times he looked like he did during the 2008 season. His fastball was moving and confusing hitters all night. Thanks a lot Cole you made it a lot easier to wear your jersey without hearing people say slick comments. I am once again proud to speak your name.

How about Chan Ho Park? He came in during the bottom of the 7th and earned his money after not pitching for around a month. This guy forced Manny and Kemp to get out with a runner in scoring position and oh yeah there wasn't any outs and he never looked to be in trouble during their at bats. Park you're the man! Welcome back! And I honestly hope you can keep it up because we will need it.

To the rest of the team good job and PLEASE do your best in Game 2 because the # 1 goal is to BEAT L.A.

And as always please remember these are just my thoughts!

Letter to Cole

Dear Cole,

Hey man I know I was a little harsh last time, so I hope I did not hurt your feelings. I honestly did not mean it if I did. You just have to understand this is my life. Matter of fact this is everyone's life in the city. We eat, sleep, and breath with you guys. So please understand how we as fans can get emotional. So if you happen to read this before Game 1 PLEASE do your thing. I have defended you all season long to my friends and said you will turn it around in the playoffs. Don't let me down. Shoot don't let the city down. I looked like an a$$ after Game 2 and I did not like that. I mean I didn't know what to do so I blacked out on you. My bad! Goodluck in Game 1.

Sincerely,

Jerv

What is Snyder thinking?

Dan the man is at it again. This guy never seems to amaze me. So your coach stinks and your plan is to go get the best coach money can buy?

When will you learn Dan? I mean you just done get it do you?

For those that do not know ESPN is reporting that the Redskins are interested in Jon Gruden as their new coach! WOW! COME ON MAN! Show some loyalty to your coach Dan. No matter of fact give up and allow someone to do your job. Just be rich and live your life.

Dan honestly to me you are one hell of a businessman but as a football owner you stink. I'm sorry I am from a place where we call a spade a spade so on that note I'll say it again you stink. It did not work when you signed Deion, nor Bruce Smith, nor J Trotter, nor Springs. Just stop. Please! You and the Redskins have honestly become the laughing stocks on the NFL.

Honestly Dan how about this, hire a new owner or if you still want to be involved with the team hire someone to make EVERY decision for you!

And as always these are just my thoughts!

How good is Ryan?

So all I have to say about this one is WHAT A GAME. I must admit I was three seconds away from calling my ticket guy and putting in a request to be at Game 5 so that my father and I can be there to guide the team to a win. Needless to say I am glad I do not have to do that yet. My guys pulled it out and showed the heart of a champion.

Man I love this team. If I could run to the top of a mountain right now I would and scream "I LOVE THE PHILLIES!" Over and over again.

Quick question, can Ryan Howard get some respect? I mean what more does he have to do? I mean I know Albert Pujols is great but is he that much better then RH? I don't think so. After getting paid this offseason Ryan lost weight and became a better fielder. And oh yeah he is still the man with a bat in his hand.

Look I'm not about to run down his stats or even use Game 4 as an example of why he is great (FYI if you missed the game that sucks for you). All I want you guys to do is give my guy some respect and realize that he is great and so is this team.

GO PHILLIES and BEAT L.A.

And as always these are just my thoughts.

Worth the wait

So Game 3 of the Phillies game didn't end till about 2:18am ET and honestly since my boys won it was worth it. The game was filled with tons of ups and downs along with a few head scratchers but at the end of the day the Fightin' Phillies showed they have the heart of a champion.

First I would like to say welcome to the 2009 MLB Postseason Mr. Chase Utley. Chase started the game off with a solo HR giving his team a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning silencing a lot of people that were starting to question his postseason ability. HOWEVA that lead was gone in the blink of an eye after Colorado knocked in two runs in the bottom of the 1st.

But the Phillies did not panic at any point in the game. It seemed like every time the Rockies took the lead, the Phillies would take it right back their next time at bat. For the most part the Phillies played a good game, they played small ball when they needed to and as we all know, IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS that win games.

The only complaint I have about the game would be the performance of J.A. Happ. Happ pull up a chair I promise to be gentle.

Dude what happen? Where you scared? Nervous? Or were you still hurt from the ball hitting you in Game 2? Please Happ just tell me! I promise I will understand. Something has to be wrong with you if you threw 76 pitches in three innings and gave up three runs on five hits. EXPLAIN IT PLEASE.

Ha maybe it's me Happ. Maybe I expected to much from you in your 1st start. Maybe I was aiming to high by asking you to go SIX innings and only giving up 2 or 3 runs. Oh well kid you'll get them next time.

Special shoutout to Brad Lidge. I was a little nervous when you entered the game BUT the people I watched the game with (yes TRUE fans watch EVERY pitch) will tell you I did want you in the game no matter how many runs we were up.

And lastly special shoutout to the homeplate umpire. Man you were squeezing the hell out of the pitchers. Your strike zone was SOOOOOOOOOOO small and made me realize that size does matter (THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID). Oh well I would tear you a new one but my boys won so it's all good.

As always boys and gals please please remember these are just my thoughts!

Oh yeah I BeLEEve in Game 4!

The Good & The Bad!

So I do not want to sound like Negative Nicholas but I actually saw some flaws in the Eagles dominating performance over the Bucs. Yeah I know what you're asking yourself "Jerv how can you say you saw flaws in the lopsided win?" Well I wish I didn't but I actually did.

The first thing I noticed was that the Eagles had a lot of trouble guarding the Bucs' tight end Kellen Winslow. Winslow torched the Eagles for over 100 yards receiving and two touchdowns also. Going into the game Winslow did not have 100 yards in a game this season and in the prior four games he only had a total of two TDs. If the Eagles plan to be a true contender they MUST work on stopping the opposing teams TE.

Another flaw I noticed was they amount of penalties that the Eagles had. They had a total of 10 penalties totaling 111 yards. On the bright side thats more yards than Winslow had (cheap shot...yes I know). True contenders do not make so many mistakes in a game. However if they do, they do not get caught. So one word of advice guys if you are going to cheat DON'T GET CAUGHT!

Now I was impressed with 5's effort and performance. No need to run down his stats because in my opinion it was a typical "5 type" game. But the person I was the most impressed with is Mr. Macline. He had over 100 yards receiving and two TD's. Welcome to the NFL sir.

The Eagles are definitely one of the best in the NFL and as the season goes on and the starters get more time to play with each other, they will continue to impress the world along with myself.

But again these are just my thoughts!

A don't call me I'll call you Sunday

Even though the Phillies are getting screwed by having a 10pm et game I am ready for a great sports Sunday. Eagles at 1pm more games at 4pm and 8pm and then my Phillies at 10pm. LETS GO. This is the type of Sunday where I do not get up from in front of the TV.

Eagles game

I am very excited to see 5 back on the field. Hopefully the Birds will keep the high octane offense rolling and 5 will look like he did in 2004. The Bucs are starting to be annoying because no matter how bad or good they are, they ALWAYS seem to give us a hard time. I still do not think I am over the 60+ yard field goal to win the game a few years ago. I was watching that game with a Tampa fan and lets just say I wanted to fight after that game. With that said I am all for a Birds win today. WE NEED to keep it up and take advantage of the next few games and keep the good times rolling.

Phillies game

So I have a feeling the baseball gods are blessing us by letting the team have one more day off to make up for Uncle Chollie playing 2 starters in Game 2 after Unlucky Lefties horrible performance. Haap has played solid all year long and has been excellent on the road. I am not saying this game is a lock but I like our chances. I got carried away before and forgot that I am from Philly so no matter how much we are suppose to win, WE ALWAYS make it hard and sometimes find ways to screw up.

Hey Haap if you read this please relax out there. DO NOT PULL A COLE!. Try your best out there and do not look like you would rather do ANYTHING but pitch during the game. In fact J.A. JUST WIN! The city is supporting you. We do not expect for you to throw a no hitter...shoot not even a shutout. All we ask is that you go out there tonight and do your best. Because if you do your best I am 100% confident you and the team will win.

Good luck to both of my teams today and stay tuned for my recaps and as always remember these are just my thoughts.

Jerv's Friday Fantasy plays

Man I am still pissed about UnLucky Lefty but to follow in the footsteps of the great Andy Reid "I'm not going to get into all that!"

Lets get to it! In ALL of my leagues I have a pretty pretty pretty good team. No I am not in 1st HOWEVA I have them right where I want them.

WHO TO PLAY!

David Garrard: Dude threw for over 300 yards last week and I am looking for him to put up very similar numbers this week because The Seahawks are not doing to well against the pass and have given up 5 touchdown passes in the past 2 weeks. Garrard is in the zone and I'd look for him to keep it up this week.

Brian Westbrook: So this could be the Eagles fan in me, but I do not think Westbrook is done. I honestly think that he has a little juice left in him and will perform this week against Tampa Bay. The Bucs are ranked 30th against the run and 17th against the pass. I look for Westbrook to break at least one screen play long and also to be efficient on the ground.

Mike Sims-Walker: Well in order for Garrard to be successful he has to have a receiver to throw the ball to right? Correct! And that man is Walker. Walker caught seven balls for 91 yards and two TD's in a Week 4 win. I honestly think Garrard and Walker will be a nice combo this week so look for them to ball.

GUYS I'D STAY AWAY FROM

The Bengals: They are facing the Ravens and well lets just say they look stellar this year. Now I will admit so does Palmer and the gang but they are not a good play in my eyes this week. The Ravens are a top 10 defense and should be pretty stingy this week.

Tom Brady and Pats: Wow did I just say that...OH YES I DID. Now I know most people that have Brady or Moss will have to play them this week because of where they were drafted, but do not expect much from them. The Broncos are #2 in yards allowed and with an injured Fred Taylor the Pats may try to throw even more. NOW LETS GET THIS CLEAR I am not telling you to sit Brady nor Moss but I am saying DO NOT BE SHOCKED if they struggle this week.

I hope these plays help and remember these are YOUR teams so play and sit who YOU feel is best. Feel free to comment on this post if you have any questions or if you would like to ask me a fantasy question in private feel free to hit up my facebook page.

Boy was I wrong!

First off I would like to say congrats to "UNLucky Lefty"...his wife went into labor during the game. But I'm sorry Cole that's the last time during this blog that I will give you kudos.

Cole you absolutely failed me. You not only lost the game, you also had such a short outing we saw not ONE, but TWO potential Game 3 starters try to save the day. Now I will not lie it's not completely your fault that our bullpen SUCKS and Uncle Chollie doesn't trust them, but screw that is it too much to ask you to pitch seven innings? Sh*t is it tooooo crazy to ask you to not give up 4 runs in the first 5 innings?

Dag Cole here I am telling everyone that you are a lock and how we have NOTHING to worry about. Maybe it's my fault. Maybe I jinxed the team. If it is I apologize Philly. If you know me you know that I always think about the team first. Shoot my father and I go to games partly because we are undefeated in all Sixers, Phillies, and Eagles games since 2003(but that is another story for another time). Actually here is one example, we sat in the FREEZING COLD...A NOREASTER to be exact and paid THOUSANDS of dollars to help the Eagles win the NFC championship (sorry for rambling). But again maybe it's my fault you stuck today Cole. Maybe I should have went to the game with my father and used my connects to get some seats. But I honestly did not think you needed our help today Cole!

Cole I am a realist so I understand you will not win every game but are you serious with this performance? Dag Cole I am speechless and have nothing else to say to you or my followers.

Hey once again I'd like to say thanks for following me and enjoying the Jerv movement. And as always PLEASE remember these are just my thoughts!

Lets make some Popcorn!

Ok so I am 6-3 so far. In a parlay world THAT SUCKS because with my luck I'd go 2-1 in every 3 game parlay. HOWEVA in my world (straight bets) I am on a roll. NOW PLEASE remember I am not a rocket scientist (anybody that has grown up with me knows that) and I am not forcing your hand and making you risk your own popcorn. I am just giving friendly advice for the weekend games. FYI the lines fluctuate allllll the time. So be careful.

Saturday's games

Georgia vs. Tennessee

This game is a PK. Now I usually do not touch these games (and I am still nervous about this one) but I have not been impressed with Tennessee so far. Georgia on the other hand looked very good last week when they took on LSU. Now that could be because LSU was looking ahead to the Florida game or it could be because Georgia is a good team. So if I HAD to pick this game I would take Georgia in this one.

Georgia Tech vs. Florida St.

Wow I never thought I would have the guts to go public and take FSU....BUT with all that is going on in the news about Bobby Bowden I have to imagine that FSU will come to play. FSU is -3 at home against #22 ranked G. Tech, and also they are looking for their first ACC win of the season. I look for FSU to win and also cover the spread at -3.

Sunday's games

Washington vs. Carolina

Carolina is -4.5 at home against the Redskins and they are looking for a win BAD. To me both teams suck and this game will show I am right. But I still like Carolina over Washington because I think a team that loses to Detroit and struggles with St. Louis may in fact be a team on the decline. Therefor I am picking Carolina to get their first win and to cover the spread.

Jacksonville vs. Seattle

For some odd reason this game is also a PK. Now Vegas knows a lot more then this guy but I'm not a fool. The Jags looked good a few times this season and they are taking on Seattle and their backup QB this week. I would have to say that gives Jacksonville an advantage. Also David Garrard looks like he is "in the zone" so I look for him to have a good game and also lead his team to a win.

Remember everyone THESE ARE JUST MY THOUGHTS so use your popcorn at your own risk. Stay tune for my Game 2 recap (GO PHILLIES) and also Jerv's Friday Fantasy plays (that sounds like a cool name).

I beLEEve

So let me be the first to say, I WAS WRONG. And yes even though I am wrong, I sure am happy to be it. Cliff Lee pitched a hell of a game. Leading my Phillies to a win in Game 1, setting up my favorite pitcher for a Game 2 win.

Lee looked great. He threw a complete game and besides a few rough innings in the beginning, he never looked to be in trouble. Lee had 5 strikeouts and only gave up 6 hits. He definitely made people like myself eat their words.

However I still feel like Cole should have been the Game 1 starter but once again Uncle Cholli shows how smart he is by having the faith in Lee to pitch in Game 1, allowing for last years World Series MVP to pitch in Game 2. WOW. Imagine how you would feel if you were the Colorado Rockies if after dropping the first game, you were told in Game 2 you had to face Cole Hamels aka "Lucky Left" aka "Jerv's favorite pitcher."

Now I am a die hard Philadelphia sports fan so I know all about heartbreaking losses. So I am not getting ahead of myself. I am taking each game 1 at a time. But I must admit this feels good knowing my team has at least a chance to repeat. So thanks a lot Lee for doing a hell of a job in Game 1 and I honestly hope Lucky Lefty continues what Lee started.

Lee you are the BLEEPING man and GO PHILLIES...And oh yeah these are just my thoughts!
